Mobile device use has now come of age. In recent years, there have been significant changes in the way people connect to the internet. According to recent statistics1, in 2011 nearly half of all UK internet users connected with a mobile phone, while away from their office or home. In 2011, there were 17.6 million mobile phone internet users, which is 45% of UK internet users.
More than ever it’s important for your customers and prospects to be able to find you on the move from their mobile phone or tablet computer. The first step is to develop a mobile optimised or mobile friendly website which will be different to your main desktop website. Mobile phones have a much smaller display area for content and functionality and therefore will work differently to a desktop version, so it is important to develop a mobile version for your customers and give them an excellent and seamless experience. Otherwise your customers are likely to abandon your site because it is too difficult to use or doesn’t work properly for them, which could mean loss of sales or leads.
Research has shown2 that conversion rates are typically much higher when a mobile user is served a mobile optimised page, rather than a desktop version of a site, so a mobile web design is worth implementing.
